Review:
Amy Loewan
Loewan's work integrates her Chinese heritage with Western post-modernist art and utilizes woven rice paper with Chinese calligraphy, Eastern symbolism and Western characters. In his article on her work, Ken Illcisin, Canadian art critic, says that "combining traditional Chinese calligraphic brush marks to a western surrounding of formalism, Loewan achieves a symbiotic relationship which looks like a cross-breeding between the Chinese masters and Andy Warhol." Available research materials on the artist in the AAAC Archives are 42 slides, reviews, newspaper articles on her award winnings, invitation cards of her exhibitions, exhibition photos and her own writings.
