China on the Way to Modernization (From the Republic to the Present)
A Case Study on Inheritance and Development of Jingdezhen Ceramic Craftsmanship 走向现代化的中国 - 以景德镇的陶瓷手工艺传承为例 Two Lectures On Sunday by Dr. Fang Lili and Zhu Legeng DATE: SUNDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2009, 7PM ![]() Fang Lili is the author of Chinese Ceramics. The lecture, "The Ceramics Culture of Jingdezhen, China," explores the organization and methods of making ceramics in the city that has been China's porcelain capital since the 12th century. She graduated with a PHD from the Dept. of Fine Arts Historical Theory, Fine Arts Institute of Tsinghua University in 1996, doing post doctoral study at the Post doctoral Researching Station of Sociology & Anthropology at Beijing University. At present she is the director of the Research Center of Anthropologies of Chinese of Academy of Arts as well as researcher. Zhu Legeng is from the Chinese Academy of Arts, as is Dr. Fang Lili. Zhu Legeng has won major prizes at China ceramics competitions. In 1997 a solo exhibition of his work was held at the National Art Museum of China. Since then, the artist has completed a series of ceramic mural installations at Seoul's Milal Museum of Art and at the Shanghai Art Museum. A lecture by Zhu Legeng entitled, "My Odyssey in Ceramics" is on how the artist overcame obstacles of the communist cooperative factory ceramics system in China to found and develop one of the first private ceramics studios in the post-Mao era.
